Overbattle The All War artworks and Animations

Making Of / 30 March 2020

It has been some time!

Here is  a project I have had the privilege  of working for some time now. Now I can show you all everything in one space Concept art and more.

The first images are a range of concept art pieces to get a feel for the world that two of races live. First up the Gliesians with a organic enriched life style with lots of blues, pinks and reds.

The race below are called the Meterrians, these live a rich life of wealth and love gold structures to show there power in wealth.

After some concepts where created I had the privilege of revamping the mock card templates and painting all of the card art for the board game. This totalled to be 16 cards with 64 card verity for each race colour.

Last but not least I have created promotional animations of existing works for the kick-starter campaign.

These animations where made to give visual explanations for certain game mechanics.

Thank you taking the time to look through this fun project I had the chance to work on. Please go visit the kickstarter page for more info on the product. Search for Overbattle The All War.

aNEmate's show and tell

General / 14 October 2019

I had the recent privilege to show my personal Project off to the creatives of the north east of England Newcastle. Hobbyist graduates and professionals get together to show of client work or personal work, get feedback if they want it and take questions relating to the showing. The response was heart warming and has gave me the drive to get to more events like these.

Being an artist sometimes these social events can be daunting, all the thoughts of "they might not like my work" "what if no one is interested" all flash in our heads. However we just need to get out there an be strong. Not arrogant but strong minded and enjoy the feedback we receive. We are our own worst critique.

So moral of the story hear is get out there, no one will see your work if you don't show it off. Even the pieces you think are bad just show it, 9-10 times people will see the route you where taken on what we deem as a failed piece.

Here are some photos curtsy of @mdhammondphotos of the show and tell I was apart of recently at #aNEmates. Was a brilliant experience and looking forward to doing more like it.

Talking about how rocks are awesome to paint!

Showing my initial sketching to those interested.

The talk its self! Action shot!

Just me listening to James founder of Arcus Studio introduce the show and tell.

Lantern man and Black Shuck's

Making Of / 01 October 2019

The Lantern man is a ghost light.

So the idea behind what i wanted to achieve was give of a unsettling vibe. I loved the idea of the Lantern man being more of a decrepit ferryman with idea that Black Shuck's where his companions. Give the meaning to both a more sinister aura. I wanted to go with the heavy textured feel like an organically painted pieces. The hard part was creating a piece that was dark but not to dark so you cant see what is actually going on. Sometimes is scarier seeing exactly whats in front of you more than not being able to see anything.

With the river as you can see with the sketch is was never there to begin with. However the idea of the river dividing you from the three threats just watching you makes the piece have a more menacing factors to it.

This is when I started to shape my roughs into something tangible. I wanted to leave the characters to near the last phase, the reasoning was I wanted to give the environs its own potential story.

After working on the environment longer its still felt like there was no compositional draw. So the addition of the rob which later turned to the ribbons, draws the eyes towards the creepy trio. And this is when I put my nose to the grind stone not saving process steps... Ops I should record next time.

So the outcome, as you can see I changed the temperature of the image to shift to a colder muted theme than the dull warm colours. I also added the likes of "totems" or "warnings" to the ribbons to give the sense that this trio is very very old. Overall I'm happy with the piece I feel my environments are getting stronger, I also threw in another old myth in the background. Any ideas what it is? ;)
